Yayoi Kusama is in the news these days, or rather her world-famous Yellow Pumpkin on Naoshima because of what happened to it a couple of days ago.
And digging through my old site to move some content here, I stumbled upon a picture of my first encounter with her art.
Interestingly, it is not on Naoshima that I first “met” her (I never actually met her, I mean, her art), but in Paris. It was in 2008, one year before I visit Japan for the first time and two years before I saw the Yellow Pumpkin.
It was in the Grande Halle de la Villette, and here is one picture I still have from it :
